About SMAGOGA
St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association started in 1975 in Benin City, Nigeria with the objective of linking old girls and keeping their interest in their alma mater. Barrister Patricia Ogedengbe was its pioneer president. In February of 1993, spearheaded by Evelyn Okunbor (nee Asemota) and at Engr Christi Adelowo (nee Jacobs)’s home, it the decision to form a Lagos branch was made. In 1992, at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, under the chairman ship of the school’s longest serving principal, Dr Henrietta Powers, the Lagos chapter was formed with Caroline Shodeinde (nee Thomopulous) as the first president. Roseline Awomolo (nee Omogiate) and Justice Monica Mensen started the Abuja branch in 2000. On July 6th, 1999, a resolution was made to merge all chapters to form one national body. The then hard-working Lagos president and director at Central bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Afusat Osaretin Demuren (nee Lawal) was elected national president and ably held the association together for 4 years. The current national president is Barrister Patricia Ogedengbe. The association has provided a borehole for the school as well as a science lab. It also participates in charitable works.
About GOGI
In 2002, Evelyn Otaigbe (nee Ikuenobe) started an e-mail trail of old girls in the Diaspora. The first informal meeting was held in Atlanta in 2002 and was attended by Owen Imachukwu (nee Aghahowa) Mediatrix Osayi (nee Idada), Odegua Oboh and Evelyn Otaigbe. In 2007, St Maria Goretti Old Girls Interntional was founded by Evelyn Otaigbe and incorporated as a non-profit domestic company by Francisca Ikuenobe (nee Oboh), Mediatrix Osayi, Owen Imachukwu and Evelyn Otaigbe. This group and Nosayaba Adadevoh (nee Enobakhare) formed the “CORE TEAM” and have planned the 1st Goretti Old Girls international Convention. The current interim officers are Evelyn Otaigbe (President) Osayaba Adadevoh (Vice President), Francisca Oboh-Ikuenobe (Public Relations Officer/Protocol), Owen Imachukwu (Secretary), and Mediatrix Idada (Financial Secretary/Treasurer).

At its first reunion, GOGI jumpstarted its "Save the Girl Child" Initiative.
